We decided to take a spontaneous trip down to The Cookie Jar for a night away. A work colleague had recommended the hotel so we thought we would try it out. From the moment we arrived we felt right at home. We were greeted with warmth and despite arriving early we were checked in promptly and shown to our very comfortable room Holy Island. The room had a very large bed, spacious shower room and Smart TV with Netflix. Real coffee and fresh milk was a lovely touch along with home baked fresh cookies. The great location allowed us to walk easily into Alnwick and we visited Barter Books for coffee and cake beside the fire.|In the evening we ate in The Bistro. Professional service and perfectly cooked food. What not to like. Highlights were perfectly cooked scallops, pork, rib eye steak and a white chocolate bomb. |After a great nights sleep we had breakfast which was freshly cooked and of a high standard. Lovely fresh fruit, homemade granola, freshly baked pastries and a selection of cooked to order hot options,|The service and our overall experience was amazing. This small boutique hotel could put many a 5 star hotel to shame. We would 100% recommend and will be back.

I had been looking forward to visiting The Cookie Jar and came for an evening meal with friends. Much effort must have been spent on the exquisite decor and the ambience was warm and welcoming. I always like to praise a venue such as this but I'm afraid on reflection I was a bit disappointed. |I had chosen loin of venison with butternut squash orzo. This turned out to be a very modest dollop of what looked like risotto with two pieces of beautifully cooked venison perched on top. I have a healthy appetite but did not find this to be a satisfying meal, which would have benefitted from the inclusion of some vegetables. ||For dessert I had ordered Lemon mousse. This was not at all what I was expecting and looked most unappetising. Just a spoonful of rather liquid mousse on a flat plate with two triangles of dry sponge cake stuck in the top and a little bit of fruit puree to the side. It tasted ok but disappointing for what we were paying. The most surprising thing of all were the bar prices. I was charged £10 for a G&T and friends were charged £17 each for a modest glass of wine. Clearly, I am not the quality of client you are trying to attract and I do not feel encouraged to return.

Stayed for one night and wished it had been longer. The hotel, which used to be a convent, has been tastefully and stylishly renovated. My room was beautiful and the bed very comfortable. Breakfast was first class, who can resist Craster kippers when they are on offer!! But above all, the staff were just fabulous, a credit to Northumberland in every way. I will be back, hopefully next time when the restaurant is open for dinner.

2 night stay. Booked a comfy room but got there and they upgraded us to a luxury which was great. Lovely sized room and bathroom. Tea, coffee, milk in room. Very comfy bed. Great wifi signal. Extra channels on TV which was a bonus.
Breakfast delicious. Good choice of cooked meals plus cereals, fruit yoghurt, pastries. Very friendly staff in all areas of hotel. Spotlessly clean throughout. Didn't want to leave to be honest. Highly recommend

The team at Cookie Jar made our wedding. A huge thank you to Debbie and Lynn. We had a buffet meal the night before our wedding for friends and family who had travelled up the night before and the food was fantastic. The Pecan pie was loved even by our American friend. The rooms are beautifully styled and the team couldn't be more helpful. Breakfast was divine and honestly, even our dog loved it.

This is a review of the restaurant, as we didn’t stay at the hotel.||We had a really lovely meal, very friendly service and all dishes were really delicious.||The most important bonus, and the reason I want to write the review, was the amazing vegan menu which, I think, was designed especially. To have a choice of 3 dishes at each course was an extremely rare pleasure and all of it was very good. Each dish had been prepared with the same thought and care as the non-vegan dishes my companion ate.||So a huge round of applause to the chefs and the restaurant, I was sooooo grateful to enjoy my dinner like I used to in my pre-vegan days!
